The worldwide tourism industry has grown at such a pace over the past two decades that today it is one of the biggest contributors to economic growth.

According to a recent United Nations report, tourism’s expansion has seen it become one of the largest and fastest-growing economic sectors in the world, ranking as the third biggest economic producer.

Much of this growth is down to two main factors: the rise in the number of new destinations opening up and the rapid expansion of- and demand for- low-cost carriers, which now account for around 25% of the airline market.

This has led to the creation of more jobs within the airline industry, with a noticeable shift in the balance of power away from the once-dominating European and US airlines.

Indeed, there has been rapid growth in air travel throughout the developing regions of Latin America, while the Middle East-based carriers such as Emirates and Qatar Airways are taking an ever-larger slice of the market.

With the shifting airline landscape and the rise of new markets, job opportunities are no longer concentrated within just one or two regions as they once were, but spread out across a number of areas.

Add the fact that sector growth is predicted to continue growing in line with forecasted growth of the tourism industry to the mix, it becomes clear to see that opportunities for airline professionals to pursue their career ambitions overseas are plentiful.
